Week 11: Minecraft Ore Lamp

This week’s project is all about bring Minecraft to life. We will be using Tinkercad as well as creating a circuit to make an awesome ore lamp.

Tinkercad -

Because Minecraft is a game built on blocks, our lamp will be a cube. There should be three types of sides, a bottom without openings (1), walls with openings for the light (4) and one with an extra hole for the switch (1).

  1. Start by creating a new design

  2. Then on a piece of paper start to plan your layout

    1. Because the block is pixel art, you can set each block to equal whatever measurement you want (Mine was 5mm=1block)

    2. Now find out where and how big each hole is by multiplying how big your block is by however big you are making each pixel (For mine, something that was 2 blocks long and 1 high would be 10mm x 5mm)

  3. Once you have your plan, create it in Tinkercad *Don’t forget to measure and add in a hole for your switch

  4. (Extra) If you want your blocks edges to fit nicely together, cut each side at a 45 degree angle.

  5. Now print your pieces

LED Circuit -

  1. Connect two 1.5v batteries in series

  2. Connect the left over positive wire to the long LED leg

  3. Connect the left over negative wire to the switch

  4. Connect the other side of the switch to the short LED leg with a wire
