Forge CIT Program (Counselor-in-Training)

For Students in Grades 6–12

Our Counselor-in-Training program gives older students the chance to step into real leadership at Forge. CITs support instructors, mentor younger makers, and help keep our workshops running smoothly — all while developing the confidence, responsibility, and communication skills they’ll use for years to come.

CITs are not campers and not yet staff — they’re trainees gaining hands-on experience in a safe, structured environment.

Who Can Be a CIT?

  • Grades 6–12

  • Students who enjoy helping others, staying engaged, and taking initiative

  • No prior Forge experience required (though it helps!)

  • Must model safe tool use and positive behavior

Tuition: 50% Off Regular Camp Price

CITs are still part of the camp community, but they take on leadership responsibilities throughout the day.
Because of that, families receive 50% off tuition.

This discounted rate covers:

  • Access to all camp materials and projects

  • Daily leadership coaching

  • Close guidance from instructors

CITs do not supervise campers alone and remain under instructor supervision at all times.

Daily responsibilities include:

CITs follow a structured, leadership-focused version of the camp schedule and spend most of their time helping instructors and supporting younger students.

  • All CITs must arrive by 8AM on the day of camp.

  • Assisting instructors during building sessions

  • Helping younger campers troubleshoot projects

  • Distributing materials and maintaining workspaces

  • Supporting setup and cleanup

  • Demonstrating safe, responsible tool use

  • Encouraging teamwork and positive behavior

While CITs may participate in occasional hands-on project moments, the primary focus is leadership and assistance, not building their own full projects.

Training & Mentorship

Each CIT receives:

  • A morning briefing with staff

  • Guidance on communication, problem-solving, and safety

  • Ongoing feedback throughout the day

CITs are treated as developing leaders — not additional labor — and get meaningful support from staff every day.

What CITs Gain

CITs walk away with:

  • Leadership + teamwork experience

  • Confidence working with younger students

  • Real responsibility in a structured environment

  • Stronger communication skills

  • Eligibility for future roles at Forge (Junior Instructors, summer staff, etc.)

  • Optional documentation for volunteer/service hours
